This Case Study is concentrated on a graphic design and advertising company, Advert Co., and the challenges their employees face. Two employees, Sue, and George are transferred from the Indonesian office to New Zealand on a two-year contract. Upon their move, they discover a significant pay discrepancy between themselves and their new colleagues, which leads to a decrease in job satisfaction, motivation, and productivity from Sue. On the other hand, George experiences difficulty with the language barrier and his lack of qualifications in comparison to his colleagues.
Another employee, Sally, attempts to fit in with her team by adopting their unproductive traits and begins arriving to work late, taking extended breaks and socialising. In response, management tries to address the lack of productivity by renovating the office and implementing a performance-based reward system. However, the goals management set are difficult and often unachievable for employees which results in frustration.
