Design Calculation for Automatic Sprinkler System (Pre-calculated Method)

1.  Consider an office building with 22 floors (G/F, 1-22/F, open R/F, @3.5m floor to floor). 

[Note that this is a different building from the example used for FH/HR system] Draft a 

simple schematic diagram of the automatic sprinkler system to show the system 

arrangements and pipe sizing. 

The following should be considered:

a)  Hazard Class of premise

b)  Separation of Installations

c)  Tank Location and Sizing (Case 1: G/F sprinkler tank, Case 2: R/F sprinkler tank)

d)  Pumping Arrangements and Sizing (for the different tank location arrangements)

2.  A ‘sample’ sprinkler layout for the office is drafted as shown in Fig.1. (~1450m2)

a)  Identify the Design Point(s) of the system according to ‘Pre-calculated Method’.

b)  Size the range and distribution pipes according to ‘Pre-calculated Method’
