First Steps in Translation Practice is a skill-based and topic-based textbook of translation practice for beginners. The course book is intended for approximately 45 contact hours. It is designed to help students to:
Develop and practice tactics and skills in analyzing and translating short and simple texts on topics related to socio-economic, cultural, environmental issues in English and in Vietnamese;
Familiarize themselves with a variety of written texts for experience and knowledge of the text types and their linguistic features;
Compare and contrast the semantic, syntax, and pragmatic features of English and Vietnamese languages in the texts;
Find and apply effectively the equivalent vocabulary; and
Appropriately transfer the selected texts into the target language.
